Nova/G Education Fails To Employ 600 Teachers

G.communication fails to hire about 600 ex-Nova teachers
Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at 06:58 EST
NAGOYA — G.communication Co said Monday it will not be able to rehire around 600 foreign teachers, who formerly worked for failed language school operator Nova Corp, from January as planned.
Nagoya-based G.communication will end its rehiring with the 1,447 people including Japanese staff that it has already taken on because the number of schools it will take over from Nova will be 126 instead of 200 as initially targeted.
In November, the company said it would hire all 1,760 instructors and other staff who had applied to work at the schools and would also take on the remaining 694 Nova workers who had yet to decide on whether to apply.
G.communication has announced the resumption of only 116 schools as of Monday because many of the 200 schools have rental arrears for long periods and negotiations with building owners have hit snags.
The company said 10 more schools will resume operations, but it will be almost impossible for the remaining schools to do so.
About 800 foreign instructors have applied to work in or after January and the company intends to take on about 200 after commencing interviews Tuesday.
As for those instructors who will not be hired, the company said it will refer them to other language school operators.
